OUR CONCEPT
Based on Shannon Hale's 2003 novel of the same name, The Goose Girl is a sprawling, humorous, sometimes dark take on the beloved Grimm story that explores the themes of love, duty, friendship, and self-acceptance.
"A FAIRY TALE THAT FEELS
A LITTLE MORE HBO,
& A LITTLE LESS DISNEY."
THE
STORY
The Goose Girl is the story of Ani ("AH-knee"), a young Princess betrothed to a Prince from a faraway land. En route to her new life, Ani’s lady-in-waiting stages a coup d’etat and – assuming Ani’s identity – manipulates the Prince into believing that she is the future Queen. Robbed of her identity and tending geese to survive, Ani discovers a world filled with promise as she befriends the townsfolk of her new home. When war between the two kingdoms looms, Ani must learn to harness the power inside of herself to save those she loves and create her own happily-ever-after.
THE
SHOW
The Goose Girl is a new musical adaptation of Shannon Hale's novel by Elizabeth C. Rossi & Matthew Smedal. The musical, like the book, is based on a Grimm fairy tale and is currently in development.
With up-to-date, relatable characters; a sweeping, theatrical score; and a fast-paced, story-driven book, The Goose Girl is a fresh take on a beloved genre. A mega-musical for a modern audience.
But at its heart sits a timeless love-story. A tale of two people, determined against all odds, to find one another.

THE
SOUND
The Goose Girl has a modern, theatrical, score. The story is big, and the stakes are high. In true musical theatre style, our characters are launched into song when the spoken word is no longer sufficient.
